Ullapool - Gairloch

Between Ullapool and Gairloch

Between Ullapool and Gairloch

Driving and Detours:

Approximate distance: 57 miles or 90 km

Fishing Nets

A few miles south of Ullapool on the A835 you'll see the turning to Gairloch. This is the A832 south via the west coast. This road can be slow... But don't worry, you won't want to hurry!

The road follows the coastline of Little Loch Broom, turns inland a bit then onto Gruinard Bay then back again to Loch Ewe. Your view changes all the time, and is always spectacular.

Inverewe Gardens

Just before Polewe are Inverewe Gardens. (See Inverewe Gardens in our Landscape section). The gardens are exceptional both from a botanical point of view, and also because of their design and setting right on the rocky sea-shore of Loch Ewe.

When you reach Gairloch, a small village, I recommend going to the Fish and Chip shop and buying a pound or two of fresh Langoustines (Dublin Bay Prawns) and Squat Lobsters with a bag of chips (french fries). What better meal than to walk down to the harbour, and have these sitting on the quay watching the sea...
